DWDM - Pluggable Transceiver MSA

Welcome to the DWDM Pluggable Transceiver MSA website

The DWDM Pluggable Transceiver Multisource Agreement (MSA), initiated by Agilent Technologies, Nortel Networks and Agere Systems establishes a standard that specifies uniformity for DWDM transceiver package outlines, pin function definitions, optical and electrical interfaces and characteristics. A standard DWDM transceiver is essential to provide a focal point for the component and system industry to allow development of dense DWDM products and therefore the wide adoption of the DWDM technology.

Announced in June 2002, the DWDM Pluggable Transceiver MSA specifies all the physical media dependent requirements for implementation in Metro DWDM optical networking systems equipment.

Features

  • DWDM Pluggable Transceiver MSA
  • Compact form factor: 97.5mm x 36mm x 12.9mm
  • Wideband operation from 155 Mb/s to 2.7 Gb/s
  • Compliant with ITU-T 50/100Ghz wavelength grid (covering the C band with evolution to the L band)
  • Hot pluggable operation
  • LC fiber optic connector
  • Industry standard 70 pin electrical connector
  • Integrated railings with EMI protection
  • Enables faceplate and in-board mountable modules with respect to host card

Benefits

  • Specifies size and thermal performance for high port densities on DWDM platforms
  • Simplifies system integration of equipment
  • Assures security of supply to meet market demand with multiple lead vendors in the MSA
  • Minimizes system manufacturing costs
  • 'In-the-field" wavelength planning and commissioning permits the deferment and reduction of capital
  • Enables "pay-as-you-populate" cost structure during installation
  • Eliminates system downtime during upgrades and service calls
